WHO WE WORKED WITH?
We invest in a large number and diversity of partners, most of which are from the private sector – from employers and socially-responsible corporations to service providers and membership-based representative organisations/associations. We also work with start-up support organisations and social enterprises. All our investments aim at building market ecosystems meaning that care is taken to ensure our investments are growth generating and job creating at an industry-level, rather than anti-competitive and exclusive.
Our major criteria for partners are that they are dedicated, resourceful, problem-solving, and communicative. They are big or small, and possess the capacity and motivation to see the investment succeed.

We cooperate with public sector agencies, establishling MoUs, agreeing matching-fund arrangements, and providing cutting-edge research to agencies at the city, municipal, cantonal, entity, and state level. One component of our work is supporting public-private dialogue using evidence-based research to stimulate discussions of mutual interest.
We are supported by a number of economic and regional development agencies in the implementation of our work.
We operate using a mixture of specific publicised calls, partner 'headhunting', and on the basis of speculative approaches. Prospective investees, government bodies, and development agencies.

Investment value depends upon three factors: projected social returns, ecosystem-building credentials, and the investment's contribution to resolving sector-wide problems. In rare cases, MarketMakers has invested over 80,000 BAM.

Investees commonly use our investments to reduce the risk of a new growth and employment-generating action through:
- buying-in expertise,
- brokering connections, or
- third party services (from research, information, and data services to sales and marketing services).
In other cases, our funds have been used to guarantee risks or for loss-share arrangements. For membership-based representative organisations, we even permit a portion of our investment to be used for operational costs on a temporary and diminishing basis on the understanding that there is a solid plan in place for these costs to be covered by the organisation itself in the medium-term. As you can read, most options are on the table.
